Do you want additional financing for your studies at Western Washington University? Are you a citizen of a member state of the OAS? If so, the Rowe Fund Student Loan Program helps citizens from Latin America and Caribbean OAS Member States finance their studies in universities across the United States by awarding interest free loans. Applications are accepted and reviewed year-round. The loans are also available for university faculty and professionals with the support of the local university in the member state for continuing education or professional development courses in the United States. The courses, studies, or research for which the loan is granted must last for one full academic period and be completed within a two year period. For more information see our brochure (available online at http://www.oas.org/rowe/brochure.pdf); to download the application forms, please visit our webpage at www.oas.org/rowe or contact us at rowefund@oas.org.

The Organization of American States (OAS) grants financial assistance to citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean to help pay for the cost of their studies or research in the United States. Through the Rowe Fund student loan program, the OAS helps students and scholars, as well as scientists and exchange visitors to pursue higher studies or research in the United States. These interest-free loans are granted with the understanding that upon completion of their studies, beneficiaries commit to repay the loan in full and return to their home countries to apply their knowledge and training to the economic and social advancement of the developing countries within the Americas. While this loan often only covers a portion of formal two-year studies (up to $15,000), they can provide support for those individuals enrolled in U.S. universities for a semester exchange program, professional development courses, or research. The courses must last for at least one full academic period. Also, all studies and research for which the loan is granted need to be completed within a two-year period.

Thus far, eligible students from Latin America and the Caribbean are simply not aware of the existence of this program. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in spreading this information to financial aid officers, prospective and enrolled international students, as well as adding our website (www.oas.org/rowe) in your institution's website under financial aid for foreign students. Loan applications are usually submitted directly from the students to the Rowe Fund Secretariat and are reviewed year-round by the Rowe Fund Committee. Eligible candidates may download the application forms or may send an e-mail requesting the forms at rowefund@oas.org or by mail to the Organization of American States. For more information see our brochure (pdf).

The Rowe Fund program was created in 1948 from an endowment left by Dr. Leo S. Rowe. Over the years, the Rowe Fund has granted over 5,000 loans of totaling $24 million dollars to students from Latin American and the Caribbean for studies in the United States.
