Winter Forums:

Each Winter Quarter Encounters Abroad Forum showcases a particular academic exchange program that currently exists between Western Washington University and another university abroad. These forum sessions provide an opportunity so Western students can hear from actual students visiting from those schools and learn firsthand about the opportunities these exchange programs offer!

January 12 -- Edith Cowan University, Australia

Edith Cowan University (ECU) is located on the West Coast of Australia in Perth, and was named after the first woman elected to an Australian parliament. Perth is situated on the Swan River between the Indian Ocean and the Darling Range. The population of Perth is over 1.3 million and is known as friendly safe and relaxed, yet offers all the cosmopolitan attractions of a large international city. Edith Cowan University has a student population of almost 23,000 undergraduate students who attend classes on five unique campuses, including 3,000 international students from over 80 different countries. The university upholds a well-deserved reputation for teaching excellence, offering undergraduate courses in the following areas: Business and Public Management; Communications Health and Science; Community Services, Education and Social Sciences; and the Western Academy of Performing Arts.

January 26 -- Akita International University

Akita International University (AIU) is located in Akita City in the Northwestern corner of Honshu, facing the Sea of Japan. Akita Prefecture is the sixth largest in area among the 47 prefectures in Japan with a total population of 1,160,000. You can enjoy many natural wonders in Akita. Especially impressive is the Shirakami Mountain Range. AIU is rated among the top five universities in Japan in Humanities and Social Science. All courses, except for language courses, are taught in English.

February 9 -- Yonsei University, Korea

Yonsei University is situated on a 250-acre campus in the wooded hills of western Seoul which is twenty minutes from downtown by bus or subway. Seoul has a population of 12 million people. Yonsei University is the oldest and one of the top-rated universities in Korea. Two-thirds of Yonsei's faculty hold doctorates from U.S. institutions. The total student population is about 30,000. The courses taught in English in the International Division include Korean/East Asian business, culture, economics, history, international relations, politics, sociology, Korean language and literature, and philosophy. There are also courses taught in Korean for students proficient in Korean. The summer session offers language and culture study or an intensive language study program.

February 23 -- Bordeaux Management School (BEM), France

Bordeaux Management School (BEM) was founded by the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1874, and is one of the oldest “Grandes Ecoles” in France. The school is a member of the “Conférence des Grandes Ecoles”. BEM contributes to the emergence of a new generation of globally responsible managers by training students in the principles of sustainable development and in good corporate governance practices. Courses in international business and other related areas are taught in English. Twenty-five percent of students are international, representing 44 different nationalities. BEM is located in Talence, a suburb of Bordeaux in Southwest France.
